DOE Lauds Construction of 10,000 Energy Efficient Homes, Challenges Builders To Do More
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) says about 10,000 recently constructed homes meet the energy efficiency specifications of the voluntary Builders Challenge initiative.
These highly efficient homes advance the U.S. homebuilding industry because they integrate construction with an integrated design approach toward saving energy. They are equipped with a wide range efficient features, including windows and heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
The DOE estimates that the Builders Challenge initiative has generated an energy cost savings of about $15 million over the past four years.
The DOE plans to introduced a revised version of the Builders Challenge promote energy efficiency in homes and in the broader market. The challenge will call on builders to construct homes that save up to 40 percent more energy than outlined in the 2009 energy codes...More
