Submit Thermophysical
Properties
The thermophysical properties
of materials used in NFRC rating procedures are obtained either
from appendices A and B in NFRC 101, or by physical measurements.
In order for measured properties to be approved, they must undergo
a peer review process as defined in the draft NFRC 103 procedure. Once the properties are approved,
they are placed in appendix C in NFRC 101 and can be used by the
submitter or by a party authorized by the submitter.
Three types of thermophysical properties can be obtained using
this process;
- thermal conductivity,
- long-wave emissivity of opaque materials, and
- solar absorptance of opaque materials.
Emissivity, solar absorptance, and other solar-optical properties
of transparent glazing materials are determined using Submit
Optical Properties. Anyone wishing to submit thermophysical
properties of materials for NFRC approval shall:
- measure a minimum of 3 samples of the same material using
one of the standard methods listed in NFRC 101;
- obtain a report from the test laboratory prepared in accordance
with the requirements of NFRC 101 and NFRC 103;
- submit to NFRC (rmcgowan@nfrc.org)
image(s) of the material showing all significant
features of the material and the sample being measured using
the completed forms available on this website.
Any submitter may also request that the material be added to Table
A or Table B or NFRC 101, on the basis that it is a generic material.
The submitter is responsible for proposing the representative
generic value for such material(s) and providing sufficient references
or other justification. The Thermophysical Properties Peer Review Group will then rule on
the request. NFRC publishes updates to the tables of NFRC 101
each time a new material is approved.
