One of NFRC's main functions is to promulgate technical standards that establish uniform procedures for determining the various energy performance ratings; including U-factor, SHGC (Solar Heat gain Coefficient), VT (Visible Transmittance) and CR (Condensation Resistance).

2010 (Current Document Cycle) - Revised January 20, 2010 (Reference PCP Bulletin 2010-02)

NFRC 2010 documents have been approved by NFRC membership and The Board of Directors for publication. Implementation date for 2010 rating system is January 1, 2010.  The sunset date for 2004 ratings are listed below:

  1. Certification of new products and recertification of existing products may use the 2004 ratings under the following conditions:
    • Testing and simulations shall be completed using 2004 procedures no later than January 31, 2010; and
    • The reports for testing and simulations using the 2004 procedures shall be submitted to an IA in their entirety no later than February 28, 2010; and
    • The IA may issue 2004 CARs through June 30, 2010.
  2. Certification of new products and recertification of existing products may use the 2010 ratings starting January 1, 2010 and shall use 2010 ratings as of February 1, 2010.
  3. Additions and revisions of existing certifications shall be performed using the procedure of the original certification. This also includes:
    1. Reissuing of 2004 Extruder/Fabricator test and simulation reports certified prior to February 1, 2010 to new fabricators for the life of the original report’s certification; and
    2. Reissuing of 2004 Entry door test and simulation reports certified prior to February 1, 2010 to new door pre-hangers for the life of the original report’s certification.
  4. A product tested in accordance with NFRC 102-2004 prior to February 1, 2010 may be used as a validation test in conjunction with an NFRC 100-2010 simulation until 4 years after the date of the thermal test.

Note: Errata or addendums will be noted in the footer of each documents.  E.g. [E1A0] would mean that there is one errata published to the original document.
