One of NFRC's main functions
is to promulgate technical standards that establish uniform procedures
for determining the various energy performance ratings; including
U-factor, SHGC (Solar Heat gain Coefficient), VT (Visible Transmittance)
and CR (Condensation Resistance).

NFRC
2010 documents have been approved by NFRC membership and The Board
of Directors for publication. Implementation date for 2010 rating
system is January 1, 2010. The sunset date for 2004 ratings
are listed below:
Any
existing certification shall be allowed to exist for the remainder
of the existing certification life:

Certification of new products and recertification of existing
products may use the 2004 ratings under the following conditions:
- Testing and simulations shall be
completed using 2004 procedures no later than January 31,
2010; and
- The reports for testing and simulations
using the 2004 procedures shall be submitted to an IA in
their entirety no later than February 28, 2010; and
- The IA may issue 2004 CARs through
June 30, 2010.
- Certification of new products and recertification
of existing products may use the 2010 ratings starting January
1, 2010 and shall use 2010 ratings as of February 1, 2010.
- Additions and revisions of existing certifications
shall be performed using the procedure of the original certification.
This also includes:
- Reissuing of 2004 Extruder/Fabricator test and simulation
reports certified prior to February 1, 2010 to new fabricators
for the life of the original report’s certification;
and
- Reissuing of 2004 Entry door test and simulation reports
certified prior to February 1, 2010 to new door pre-hangers
for the life of the original report’s certification.
- A product tested in accordance with NFRC
102-2004 prior to February 1, 2010 may be used as a validation
test in conjunction with an NFRC
100-2010 simulation until 4 years after the date of the thermal
test.
