NFRC ANS Standards

Committee and Development

National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is an American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) and develops and administers comparative energy and related rating programs for fenestration products.

As an ANSI ASD, NFRC intends to submit designated NFRC rating procedures for recognition as American National Standards under ANSI’s Essential Requirements.  The NFRC rating procedures to be reviewed are “NFRC 100: Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product U-factors,” “NFRC 200: Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and Visible Transmittance at Normal Incidence,” and “NFRC 400: Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product Air Leakage.”

NFRC is establishing a standing committee designated as the “ANS Standards Committee” (Standards Committee) to oversee the review process. The ANS Standards Committee must be comprised of a variety of interested stakeholders:

The Standards Committee will be responsible for implementing the consensus process required for adoption or modification of an ANSI Standard and performing such other duties as NFRC’s Board of Directors may request from time to time. In accordance with the NFRC 710, “Operating Policies Manual,” (see Section 5.7) members of the committee are required to actively participate in the Committee’s activities, including attendance at meetings and casting ballots on matters presented to the Committee for action. Membership in NFRC is not a pre-requisite of Standards Committee participation.
