NFRC Membership and Program Participant Changes Take Effect

With the start of 2008, a number of changes have come into effect for NFRC members and program participants.

Earlier last year, NFRC announced it would shift all NFRC memberships from an anniversary billing cycle to a uniform calendar year cycle.  A standard practice among most membership-based organizations, this change will help to streamline member operations and improve audit times.

Since its inception, NFRC has experienced steady growth. Specifically in more recent years, NFRC has increased the number of full-time staff members to manage its many successful programs, including:

  • A Product Certification Program for enabling fenestration manufacturers to label products with credible, validated, and universally accepted energy performance ratings.
  • A Laboratory Accreditation Program for ensuring that simulation and test results are reputable and repeatable.
  • An Independent Accreditation and Inspection Agency Program to provide that necessary third-party inspection, validation, and authorization for ratings.
  • A Membership and Meetings Program to facilitate the development of consensus standards and technical documents, and to service the needs of our members.
  • A Research Program that funds research (over $500k to date) related to fenestration energy performance ratings.
  • An Education Program that develops and provides AIA recognized continuing education courses, educates building officials, and promotes NFRC standards and programs to multiple stakeholders.
  • A Compliance and Monitoring Program to assist in the enforcement of the requirements of NFRC Programs.

In order to continue delivering results and managing expectations, the NFRC Board of Directors made the decision last July to increase membership dues and program participation fees. This fee adjustment marks the first increase in program participation fees since NFRC’s inception.

“While raising fees is never an easy thing to do, it was necessary at this time to keep pace with our mission and our expanded workload,” said NFRC Executive Director Jim Benney.  “We really appreciate the support we’ve encountered from our members and participants during this shift.”
