Industry Happenings
NFRC is continuously working to raise visibility through exhibitions and presentations at industry trade shows, conferences, and other gatherings. Here is a snapshot of the places NFRC has exhibited recently, what’s next, and what else is happening in related organizations.
Where NFRC Has Been
- Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) – Chicago, Ill.
In its ongoing effort to establish relationships with allied organizations, NFRC attended MEEA’s annual conference in Chicago, Ill., on May 19.
MEEA is a regional organization that promotes energy efficiency programs, emerging technologies, and training sessions. The organization works continually to build and maintain a network of stakeholders to advance energy efficiency.
One of the discussions during the meeting focused on the need for standardization in energy auditing. MEEA believes such standardization would increase consumer confidence. MEEA Chair, David Eijadi, noted that a lack of standardization frequently results in people getting conflicting information, which adversely impacts their attitudes toward energy efficiency programs and the sustainable building movement in general.
The speakers at the annual meeting placed considerable emphasis on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which has had a major impact on the fenestration industry.
MEEA’s Executive Director, Wendy Jaehn, spoke about the importance of the Obama administration’s emphasis on transparency regarding the distribution and use of funds.
Gil Sperling, program manager for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Weatherization and Intergovernmental Program, concluded the meeting by talking about the need to release stimulus funds in stages rather than all at once. He said an incremental release would foster accountability and promote transparency.
- MiaGreen’s Inaugural Show – Miami, Fla.
NFRC exhibited at the inaugural MiaGreen Show 2009 in Miami, Fla.
The show and educational conference featured green and eco-friendly products and services. It also provided the opportunity for attendees to speak with industry professionals, including many from the fenestration and sustainable building industries.
Approximately 250 exhibitors took part in the first-time event, and the show’s organizers felt it was a good turnout and expect the show to increase its size and scope in coming years.
- Construct2009 – Indianapolis, Ind.
On June 17-19, NFRC exhibited at the Construct2009 Show in Indianapolis, Ind.
Construct2009 is held in conjunction with the Construction Specifications Institute’s (CSI) annual meeting. It attracted about 7,000 attendees, including specifiers, architects, project managers, and manufacturer representatives, many of whom are involved in the fenestration industry
Exhibitors included providers of the latest services, products, and technologies. The show also offered considerable networking opportunities.
NFRC fielded many questions and offered insight on its activities and programs. The organization’s attendance at Construct2009 reinforced NFRC’s position as a fenestration industry leader.
