Codes Update

Here are some of the recent code developments on the horizon being reported by the Building Codes Assistance Project (at www.bcap-energy.org):

On August 3, in New Mexico, the city of Albuquerque approved legislation for a new local energy code that would go into effect on December 1, 2009, if Albuquerque’s mayor signs the bill. The code would include a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) requirement of 0.40.

In Baltimore, Maryland, the International Code Council's 2009/2010 Code Development Hearing will take place October 24 to November 11 at the Hilton Baltimore. Hearings on the International Residential Code (IRC) energy chapter are scheduled from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26, and 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27. Hearings on the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) are scheduled from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. each day from Wednesday, October 28, to Saturday, October 31.
