NFRC Board Approves Component Modeling Approach Program Document

Approval Clears Way for Likely Program Implementation in August 2009

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (November 6, 2008) – The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) Board of Directors approved the Product Certification Program requirements for the Component Modeling Approach (CMA) during today's Board meeting.

NFRC's target implementation date for the CMA program – including software, technical documents, standards, and procedures – is August 2009.

“It's a great feeling to have the PCP approved after years of hard work,” said Jim Benney, NFRC's executive director. “While at times this process was tense, this is a huge accomplishment and we're on track to implement the CMA program next year.”

CMA will provide whole product energy performance ratings using an online database of performance data for NFRC-approved glazing, frame, and spacer components. The program will benefit NFRC's many stakeholders by:

  • Providing accurate ratings for bidding and design
  • Allowing for reliable compliance with state energy codes
  • Simplifying building officials' jobs
  • Freeing architects from fixed size constraints

NFRC Chair Joe Hayden of Pella Corp. called the vote a “historic one.” “Congratulations to the organization and committee for bringing this to completion, this is a step in the right direction,” added Hayden.
