Spectral Data File Submission Information for Inclusion in the International Glazing Database (IGDB) or Complex Glazing Database (CGDB)

The information below details the optical property submission process for routine and complex glazing materials.

Glazing for Inclusion in the IGDB

For routine glazing (e.g. LowE coated glass or clear monolithic), glazing suppliers must submit a specific sample(s) to an optical property testing laboratory, or use their own testing facilities, instructing that lab to provide specific data outlined in the documents below. After the data submission, LBNL alerts NFRC of a supplier's submission marks (adds a # sign) in the International Glazing Database(IGDB) indicating the data are acceptable for NFRC simulations. NFRC 302 governs the peer review process glazing data must go through before NFRC acceptance. Up to six times each year, LBNL publishes an IGDB update showing those marks (indicated by a # sign) denoting NFRC acceptance. Finally, simulators may now use the "marked" data to calculate insulating glazing unit performance.

Film manufacturers and laminate interlayer suppliers must also submit specific sample(s) to a testing lab in accordance with NFRC 303 and 304, respectively. Please call Ray McGowan at 240-821-9510 with specific questions.

Glazing for Inclusion in the CGDB

For complex glazing (e.g. venetian blinds, flat-woven shades, fritted/etched glazing), suppliers must submit specific samples to LBNL only at this time. There are no approved independent or manufacturer-sponsored testing laboratories to conduct optical property testing of complex materials such as shading layers. After LBNL has tested the material, they will alert NFRC of a supplier's submission marks (adds a # sign) in the CGDB indicating the data are acceptable for NFRC simulations. There is no specific NFRC document that governs the peer review and approval/challenge process at this time but will be posted once available. Up to six times each year, LBNL publishes a CGDB update showing those marks (indicated by a # sign) denoting NFRC acceptance. Finally, simulators may now use the "marked" data to calculate insulating glazing unit performance. To submit a complex glazing material for testing, contact LBNL by email using the following address: CGDB@lbl.gov.
