In San Antonio Next Week

The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) will host its Fall membership meeting Nov. 16-19, 2009, at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel in San Antonio.

Join Us in Celebrating 20 Years
Since its creation in 1989, the NFRC has been a leader in the implementation of rating and certification programs for fenestration products and energy performance. The Fall Membership Meeting will include a celebration of the organization’s 20th anniversary with special events, including live music and other surprises.

The meeting starts on Monday, November 16, with a new member orientation, followed by task group meetings and the opening session, which will feature keynote speaker Chris Mathis. Chris has been a part of NFRC since the very beginning and will share memories of the organization’s early years.

Green Building Our Way to a Bright Future
During the Regulatory Affairs & Marketing (RAM) Committee block on Monday afternoon, Build San Antonio Green Executive Director Anita Ledbetter will give a presentation on her organization’s latest initiatives. NFRC will also team with Build San Antonio Green to continue the tradition of giving back to its meetings’ host cities. Meeting attendees can make voluntary donations to Build San Antonio Green in return for special, Texas-themed lapel pin souvenirs featuring the NFRC logo. The Build San Antonio Green program is a partnership of local governments, utilities, and other community stakeholders that aims to make and keep green building affordable.

After a busy Tuesday, members can take a break from business to enjoy the Membership Reception where they can enjoy a delicious south-of-the-border themed selection of food, spirits, and music.

"We are thrilled to be celebrating our 20th anniversary with our valued members and staff," said NFRC Executive Director Jim Benney.

Business will pick back up again on Wednesday morning with the remaining committee and subcommittee meetings.

This year, there are 26 ballots up for review and approval including:

  • Two ballots under the Research & Technology Committee.
  • More than a dozen ballots during the Technical Committee block, including one under the Annual Energy Performance Subcommittee, four under the SHGC Subcommittee, seven under the U-factor Subcommittee, and two under the Attachment Subcommittee.
  • Many ballots related to NFRC 700 during the Ratings Committee block.

The Thursday morning NFRC Board Meeting will bring the Fall Membership Meeting to a close.

The NFRC Fall Meeting Program Booklet with final agendas, draft minutes, and other meeting details has been posted to the NFRC Web site. Please take the opportunity to download and review prior to the meeting.

Don’t miss out on all that San Antonio has to offer! When you are finished with NFRC business, we invite you to explore the historic city. The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau Web site offers details on a range of activities that appeal to a variety of interests, such as:

  • Touring the Alamo.
  • Enjoying renowned shops and restaurants.
  • Golfing in the Hill Country.
  • Visiting theme parks.

The downtown Sheraton hotel is less than 20 minutes from San Antonio International Airport and ground transportation information can be found on the airport’s Web site. Please be advised that downtown San Antonio will be filled with approximately 30,000 runners and traffic tie-ups early on Sunday, November 15, due to the annual Rock-n-roll Marathon. If you plan to arrive in town prior to 3 p.m., be sure to check specific road closures on the event’s Web site.

If you are unable to travel to the Fall Membership Meeting, you can access the NFRC’s live meeting report, NFRC News Now, featuring important news from the conference as it happens at nfrcnews.blogspot.com.

Special Note: As with all the committees throughout the week, the subcommittees will meet consecutively under their allotted committee block. This may mean that subcommittee meetings scheduled for one day could be moved to the day before if time allows. Watch for this with the split Technical block November 17 and 18.
