Board Approves New Numbering System for NFRC Documents

NFRC is continuously striving to provide an improved toolbox of resources for its stakeholders. One upcoming improvement is a new numbering system for program and technical documents.

The discussion began when the Accreditation Policy Committee (APC) was revising the NFRC Laboratory Accreditation Program. One of the committee’s goals when revising program documents is to streamline and simplify whenever possible.

In order to streamline the document effectively while still providing the necessary language for each program, the APC recommended a number sequencing method and presented the recommendation to the Board of Directors during the Spring Membership Meeting. The Board agreed and provided additional input on how to utilize the number sequencing for supplemental documents.

In conjunction with approving this new numbering system, the Board approved the NFRC Units and Measurement document (NFRC 601), which will follow the new system as well.

“This document establishes the NFRC Units and Measurement methodology when rating values to ensure that everyone is working from the same page,” explained NFRC’s Laboratory Accreditation Program Manager Scott Hanlon. The document will go into effect when the Certified Products Directory (CPD) 2.0 is implemented, and will be governed by the Technical Interpretations Policy Committee.

All of the NFRC technical and program documents can be found on the NFRC Web site at http://www.nfrc.org/resources.aspx.
