NFRC Members to Meet in Jacksonville for Fall Meeting

NFRC will hold its Fall Membership meeting Nov. 3-6 in Jacksonville, Fla., where members will come together for a series of committee, subcommittee, and task group meetings.

Task groups commence Monday morning at 8:00 a.m., including the new Applied Films Task Group led by the International Window Film Association’s Darrell Smith, followed by the Opening Session luncheon. There are a total of 17 ballots set for discussion over the course of the meeting.

Valuable Insight Expected from Featured Speaker
Deke Smith, executive director of the buildingSMART alliance™, will speak to meeting attendees during the Opening Session. Smith promises to provide insight and perspective to NFRC members based on his experiences. He has dedicated his career to improving construction productivity through interoperability and the elimination of non-value added effort or waste in the facilities industry.

Smith was also the founder and former chair of the National Institute of Building Sciences Facility Information Council. He initiated the U.S. National Computer Aided Design Standard and the National Building Information Modeling Standard.

Members to Get to Work on Attachments, New Task Groups
NFRC members and participants working on exterior and interior attachments have combined their efforts and become more focused in an attempt to complete their work more efficiently.

Additionally, two new task groups recently formed during the Summer Meeting in Chicago are set to convene. The Product Line I.D. Task Group, chaired by John McFee from the Window and Door Manufacturers Association, was created to help manufacturers gain access to product line ID numbers so they can better establish their documentation and labeling needs. With this development, manufacturers can perform much of their preliminary work ahead of time and be prepared to spring into action as soon as the IAs and laboratories are done with their work.

Second, the Validation Testing Task Group, chaired by Sneh Kumar of TRACO, is working to develop a new validation protocol.

CMA and Emerging Technology
There is likely to be a heavy focus on the Component Modeling Approach (CMA) Product Certification Program document, which is pending final approval now that revisions to the NFRC LAP and CAP have been completed, as well as the new program document for Approved Calculation Entities known as the NFRC Calculation Entity Approval Program.

There will also be a report on the Window Six Validation Project Software. This project is concerned with software pertaining to attachments. The CMA Condensation Research Project report should also be of particular interest to NFRC members.

Jacksonville Offers Plenty to Do
The Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel is about 15 miles from Jacksonville International Airport. Nearby attractions include the Museum of Science and History, Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art, and the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, which are all less than one mile from the hotel.  A schedule of events taking place at these venues is available at www.jacksonville.com

Downtown Jacksonville offers a wide range of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and the Crowne is less than than 20 miles from some of Florida’s most beauitful beaches. Also of note, the Jacksonville Zoo is just six miles away and open throughout the week.

NFRC members who plan to stay for the weekend may be interested in Jacksonville’s annual event known as Planetfest, which is a music festival scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8. The event features nearly a dozen musical acts that compete in a “battle of the bands” style competition.

NFRC looks forward to seeing you in sunny Jacksonville. As always, the NFRC staff will be on hand to answer your questions and help in any way.
