Industry Happenings

NFRC is continuously working to raise its visibility through exhibitions and presentations at industry trade shows, conferences, and other gatherings. Here’s a snapshot of the places NFRC has exhibited at recently, and also, what’s up next!

Where we've been:
Tom Herron, NFRC’s Marketing and Communication Manager, attended Construct 2008 in Las Vegas, June 3-6.  The show, co-sponsored by the Construction Specifications Institute, brought together a mix of industry professionals, including architects, engineers, general contractors, specifiers, designers, facility managers, building owners, and commercial construction professionals.

NFRC’s Technical Services Manager Ray McGowan attended the first biennial Building Enclosure Science & Technology Conference, June 10-12, in Minneapolis. McGowan presented an outline of NFRC’s Component Modeling Approach program and answered questions from attendees on the subject.

Jim Benney, NFRC’s Executive Director, took part in the Northeast Window & Door Association’s Summer Meeting in N.J., July 14-15. NWDA represents window and door manufacturers, supported by suppliers, for the goal of providing affordable access to information and education regarding market, government, building code, and business influencers shaping the window and door marketplace. Benney presented to the group on "The State of NFRC and Glass Certification."

Where we're going:
Herron will attend Energy Codes 2008 in St. Paul, Minn., July 22-25.  This annual training conference, provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, brings together state energy office representatives and members of the building industry to receive technical training on building energy codes and standards. Participants will learn about and integrate codes and standards activities implemented in various states and communities.  More information about this unique event is available here.

On August 22, McGowan will present an AIA Continuing Education Program to Shalom Baranes Associates in Washington, D.C. The firm, which is dedicated to educating its staff, is considering a number of upcoming projects and wants its staff to be as knowledgeable as possible when it comes to NFRC’s programs.

Jessica Ferris, NFRC’s Program Manager for the Component Modeling Approach program, will attend the Customer Technology Application Center Seminar on August 20 in Irwindale, California, in conjunction with Southern California Edison. Ferris will discuss the CMA program, the new software associated with this methodology, and how it fits in with new California Energy Code requirements.
